Officials in South Africa say that they will push for a 15-year extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act when it is considered for renewal next year. Trade leaders in the country say that the policy has been highly beneficial to the country’s economy with exports to the United States quadrupling since its inception. African trade leaders are expected to meet with U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman next week to discuss the bill ahead of a planned United States-Africa Leaders’ Summit in Washington, DC.
