A group of 24 female garment workers were admitted to the hospital on February 24 after reportedly contracting food poisoning. Authorities believe the workers were served the bad food during breakfast at the facility. All of the workers are expected to recover. (Hiru News)
Bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh could grow 7-fold if a pending Free Trade Agreement between them is finalized. Speaking at a recent international trade finance workshop, Sri Lanka’s Minister for Industry and Commerce said that while Bangladesh is among the top 25 export destinations for Sri Lanka, there is much more room to grow and given that both countries are mutual members of several regional cooperative organizations, including SAFTA, APTA, and BIMSTEC, an FTA between them is a natural move.
