Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport has gained the Regulated Agent (RA3) certificate from European aviation officials, a requirement needed to make cargo flights between Bangladesh and Europe. This means that cargo flights can resume to the U.K. and Australia after both of those countries banned direct cargo flights from Dhaka, those flights must now make an intermediate stop in another country to be re-screened before proceeding onward. European officials say that straight cargo flights from between Dhaka and the U.K. would be if the airport achieves the “ACC3” certification. (BD News 24))
Bangladesh saw a 9.22% year-on-year increase in exports during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), also exceeding a target of US$27.11 billion. Readymade garments continue to dominate Bangladesh’s exports at over 80%. (Apparel Resources)
Progress in workplace safety was among the top topics discussed during the first ever meeting of the European Union Business Council Bangladesh (EUBCB) recently held in Dhaka. Launched in February of 2015, the EUBCB is a group composed of key European business and diplomatic leaders with business ties to Bangladesh. Meeting attendees also talked about how Bangladesh could be made more attractive for European investors. (Dhaka Tribune)
