Three workers in a garment factory were killed after their facility caught fire on August 25. Witnesses spotted smoke coming out of the building early that morning, but noted that the factory doors had been locked from the outside by the owner, which prevented the workers inside from escaping. The owner of the factory has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide. (Times of India)
The head of an Indian garment manufacturing company says that European buyers are better for Indian exporters than those in the United States. In an interview with Fibre2Fashion, the Managing Director of Mandhana Industries noted that while the U.S. is definitely the larger destination for Indian goods, most of the goods sold to the U.S. are low-value, basic necessities like undergarments and t-shirts, whereas European buyers demand more value-added products. He also noted that European buyers tend to pay more for their goods than their U.S. counterparts.(Fibre2Fashion)
