Indonesian President Joko Widodo says that his country plans to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The announcement was made during a recent visit by Mr. Joko to Washington, DC, where he met with U.S. President Barack Obama who praised the decision and complimented Indonesia on a number of recent labor reforms. Indonesia is estimated to be the largest economy in Southeast Asia worth over US$1 trillion. (The New York Times)

After a 12 year delay, a new formula for calculating the minimum wage in Indonesia has come into effect. The new methodology ties the minimum wage to any increases in the GDP and even allows for extra provisions for areas of the country where the cost of living is highest. The formula replaces the old process which depended on tripartite meetings to decide the minimum wage, a process which was heavily criticized as being too political. (Fibre2Fashion)
