A strike involving over 3,000 South African textile workers has ended after the dispute over wages was resolved. With the help of intervention from the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration, members of the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) have accepted a two-year agreement on a wage hike of 8.5% which retroactively took effect on July 1. This represents a compromise between the 8.75% initially asked for by the union and the 7% hike requested by the country’s employers. (Fibre2Fashion)
